Essex County Divorce Records
Essex County divorce records, formally known as dissolution cases, serve as the official legal history of a marriage’s end. These files typically include the spouses’ names, the case docket number, the dates the parties filed for and the court finalized the divorce, and the final divorce decree. The final divorce decree outlines the court’s orders regarding the division of assets and other sensitive arrangements.
While divorce records are court documents, New Jersey does not treat them as general public records. Only the participants in the case or their legal counsel can access full divorce files without a court order. Residents may request a simpler Certificate of Divorce for a $10 fee if they do not require the full decree.
